Advantages of Precepting

Adjunct Faculty Appointment

The George Washington University Physician Assistant (PA) Program offers adjunct clinical faculty appointments for individual preceptors who serves as a clinical preceptor over a sustained amount of time. Preceptors who regularly provide clinical education are strongly encouraged to apply for this appointment. Once the faculty appointment has been made, preceptors obtain a GW email address.

Precepting students has been shown to increase clinician connections and engagement in their work. Individuals who love to teach and learn find intrinsic rewards from becoming a preceptor.  Working routinely with students encourages preceptors remain current with the latest trends in patient care and may improve the use of evidence-based practice. Finally for practices hoping to recruit PAs as clinicians, precepting is an excellent way to meet prospective PA employees.
